iConnect are delighted to announce they have merged with SPAEN (Scottish Personal Assistant Employers Network). The new charity will continue to provide support services in Aberdeen and the north and the iConnect brand will also remain as the new charity further develops support services in other parts of Scotland.
Liv Cockburn General Manager of iConnect said “both organisation’s respect and value the skills, experience and knowledge that each brings to the table. This merger will not only strengthen and enhance our current service provision, but will allow us to work together to develop new services and tools to meet people’s ever changing needs and aspirations”.
The new charity will be headed by Colin Millar the current Chief Executive of SPAEN. Liv will take up a new position as Regional Director for the North, Highlands &Islands joining her colleague Janie Ryan, current Regional Director for Central and South Scotland. Tom Ross who is currently Business Development Manager for iConnect will become Director of Membership.
We are also happy to announce that Senga Macdonald and John Tomlinson previous Chair and Vice Chair of iConnect will be joining the Board of the new organisation.
Colin Millar believes that the merger is strongly in the interests of both parties and will enable the organisation to streamline and improve and enhance its services to its members. He emphasised: “The merger will allow us to deliver and expand localised supports and initiatives backed up by national expertise in areas such as Direct Payments. We know that it is that combination of local approaches and national best practice that makes real, quantifiable difference to the lives of the people we both seek to support, not only in terms of people having more control over their daily lives but also, as we have now found, to their overall well-being across the whole of Scotland and the Isles.”
Staff of both organisations are looking forward to working together and the first opportunity to do this will be a staff away day being held on the 7th September in Dundee.
